The closest free Ybug alternative, plus 3 more picks
MarkLayer replaces Ybug's review job, feedback pinned on a live page and shared by link, for free with no project or member cap. It does not replace a feedback button on your own site, console and network capture, screen recordings or email replies to a reporter. Marker.io, Userback and BugHerd each cover part of that gap, at a price.

Ybug alternatives compared
| Option | Price | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| MarkLayer | Free (1 project, 1 member, 50 screenshots a month); Basic €10/mo yearly or €13 monthly; Startup €23 or €29; Company €47 or €59 | Anyone who wants Ybug's on-page feedback without the plan, and teams that review together in real time. |
| Marker.io | From $59/month ($39/mo billed annually, 3 team members) | Engineering teams that want console capture on every report and are past Ybug's seat counts. |
| Userback | Paid (subscription per user/month) | Product teams collecting feedback from end users who want more than one free seat. |
| BugHerd | No free plan. Standard $50/month (5 members); extra seats $8 each | QA teams that want the board and the tracker sync in one tool and have the budget. |
Top free Ybug alternatives
1. MarkLayer
Free and open source (Apache-2.0), with nothing to install for a public page: paste any URL at marklayer.app, draw, pin comments, highlight, then share a link. There is no project count, no member count and no screenshot quota. Live cursors and a peer-to-peer voice or video call run in the same room, a kanban board sorts threads by status, and every share link is also an MCP server, so Claude Code or Cursor can watch the room, resolve threads and leave annotations of their own. Pages behind a login need the free browser extension on each reviewer's side. An unclaimed link is deleted 90 days after its last activity; claiming it with a free account stops that clock.
2. Marker.io
The closest paid match to Ybug's shape: a widget on your site or a browser extension, console logs and network requests on every report, and a tracker list that includes GitHub, GitLab, Linear, Trello, Asana and ClickUp. There is no free plan. Starter is $59 a month, or $39 billed yearly, for three users. Team is $199, or $149 yearly, for 15 users and adds Jira issue sync. Reporters are free and unlimited (checked October 2026).
3. Userback
A feedback widget with a free plan of two seats and two projects, broader than Ybug's one and one, though feedback on it is only viewable for seven days. Team is $39 a month, or $29 billed yearly, for five seats and five projects. Business is $99, or $79 yearly, for unlimited seats and 25 projects (checked October 2026).
4. BugHerd
A visual bug tracker: a feedback tab on the site, each note becomes a task on a built-in kanban board, with browser, OS and resolution captured automatically. There is no free plan. Standard is $50 a month, or $42 billed yearly, for five members with extra seats at $8. Jira and Linear sit on Premium at $150, or $125 yearly, for 25 members (checked October 2026).
What Ybug's free plan does and doesn't cover
One project, one team member, 50 screenshots a month, unlimited reporters. The widget drops in with a snippet, or reporters use the browser extension, and each report carries browser, OS, screen size, URL and, from Basic up, console logs. For one site and one developer that is enough. The cap bites on the second project or the second teammate, and the capture that makes a bug report worth filing, full console and network requests, starts on Startup at €23.
The head-to-head with Ybug goes row by row. This page is for choosing between the alternatives.
Which one fits which job
MarkLayer is the free replacement for the review half of Ybug: a reviewer opens the page, pins feedback, sends a link. It adds live cursors and an in-room call, which Ybug does not advertise, and an agent on every link. It gives up the feedback button on your own site, console capture and recordings.
Marker.io is the paid tool shaped most like Ybug, with the same widget-or-extension choice and console logs on every report. Userback is the pick when two free seats matter more than capture depth. BugHerd is the pick when feedback should become tracked tasks on a board. If the thing you would pay Ybug for is console and network capture, Ybug's Startup at €23 for seven members is cheaper than any of the three.

Frequently asked questions
- What is the closest free Ybug alternative?
- MarkLayer, for the on-page feedback Ybug's free plan covers, without the one-project cap, the one-member cap or the 50-screenshot quota, and without anyone making an account. For a feedback button on your own site, console logs or screen recordings, none of the free options match Ybug's paid plans, and the paid tools above are the honest comparison.
- How much does Ybug cost?
- Per its pricing page on 11 October 2026, in euros: Free is one project, one member and 50 screenshots a month. Basic is €10 a month billed yearly or €13 monthly, for three projects and three members. Startup is €23 or €29 for seven and seven. Company is €47 or €59 for 15 and 15, with extra projects at €3 a month. The trial lasts 10 days with no card, then the account drops to Free.
- Does Ybug's free plan capture console logs?
- No. Basic records a limited console. Full console recording, network requests and video recording start on Startup. Integrations are none on Free and one per project on Basic. MarkLayer captures none of this on any plan; it records the element selector and a text snapshot for the agent handoff instead.
- Do reporters need a Ybug account?
- No. Reporters submit through the widget or extension without signing up on every plan. The account is on the team side, and that is where the member cap applies. On MarkLayer neither side signs up.
- Which of these connect to an AI coding agent?
- MarkLayer: every share link answers MCP with nothing installed, free, and the agent can watch, resolve, reply, create annotations and suggest text edits. Ybug has a hosted MCP with OAuth that is read-only on Basic and can change reports on Startup and Company, with nothing on Free. Marker.io's MCP is open to every customer and BugHerd's is in beta. Userback does not advertise one.
- Are any of these open source?
- MarkLayer is. Ybug, Marker.io, Userback and BugHerd are closed commercial SaaS.
